Born in Geneva in 1954, Pierre Maillard is both a watch journalist and a film-maker.
After working as a copywriter for advertising agencies, and having directed a number of commercials and industrial films for watch brands, Pierre Maillard joined Europa Star in 1993 as editor-in-chief while continuing his career as an independent film-maker (he has written and directed seven feature-length fictions to date).
As a journalist writing first and foremost for a trade readership, he is particularly attentive to the economic, cultural and technical aspects of watchmaking, looking beyond the headline news to analyse the deeper trends behind each story.
In addition to Europa Star – an independent watch magazine, set up in 1927 by his grandfather Hugo Buchser and now run by his brother, Philippe, and nephew Serge Maillard – Pierre Maillard is a regular contributor to publications about watches, and has collaborated with the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie since its creation. In 2015 he was a member of the judging panel for the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.
