Did you know?
Internet Time or Swatch Internet Time (SIT) is a decimal time, launched by Swatch on October 23rd 1998, that eliminates time zones. It is divided into “.beats” which correspond to one thousandth of the mean solar day or 86.4 seconds. The day begins at midnight BMT (Biel Mean Time), a theoretical timescale based on the meridian that crosses the group’s headquarters in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. The date is always according to the Gregorian calendar. Because it does not allow for time zones or observe daylight saving, Internet Time has never been recognised by standards authorities, and failed to take off as hoped among Internet users.
