SIHH: women and diamonds first in line

In French, the terms “grande complication”, “technical prowess”, “ambition”, “excellence” and the “new watchmaking year” are all feminine. And as the SIHH comes to a close, it is clear that 2015 will be all about women.

Creative inspiration

An anniversary, whether of a brand or one of its watches, is always a noteworthy event, as is the launch of a new collection. Tourbillon-charged chronos

It's a rarely attempted feat. The mechanics of time laid bare

Soon the stars of the watchmaking runway will have nothing but the barest of bones to express themselves with. But these skeletons aren't macabre; on the contrary, they offer vast areas of expression to the watchmakers who have managed to reinvent them. In 2015, skeleton watches are making their voices heard at the SIHH.

Mission accomplished for the 25th SIHH

The 25th Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie has ended on a positive note. Despite turbulence linked to the external value of the Swiss franc, and tension in certain markets, the exhibiting Maisons were highly satisfied with this quarter-century edition. Visitors were once again able to appreciate the full measure of their skills, both mechanical and artistic.

Gateway to the stars

For some considerable time, the simple calendar was considered an ancillary function; a necessary "gash" in the face of the watch. Until, that is, watchmakers realised how a large date could distinguish a dial, going on to make the annual calendar a carefully crafted focal point. The perpetual calendar's unloved little brother now has a horological pedigree of its own.

Slim is in

Like the siren's song, watchmakers were lured by the temptation of XXL. Bigger, thicker, more imposing, watches were put on a diet of bodybuilding hormones. Not so today, as classic-sized timepieces mark their return.
